Here I Am To Worship

Light of the World
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes
Let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of life spent with You

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You're my God
You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

King of all days
Oh so highly exalted
Glorious in heaven above
Humbly You came to the earth You created
All for love's sake became poor

I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross

WORKSHOP BY TOKYO KOSEI WIND ORCHESTR MUSICIANS 2-9 SEPT 2006

Sectional Leaders Training Course
together with Judith, Elicia, Vivien, Weilun, Zhengwei, Syafiqah, and Yinlan at cck interchange, and Jiawen at Clementi interchange, and by bus 14, we got to ACS(I)! (: Suffian had the privilege
to take a cab there. if not, i wonder how long he would take to get there. with that big, heavy tuba. probably he could have dragged it there? haha..

the school is like super BIG! ahahas. was led into the school by ACS(I) band members. actually a clarinettist and a baritonist; i think. met up with the earlier batch of SLs- Fangyee, Faith, Diyana, and KOH YUEN SEE((: they had just finished their lunch after the first part of the course- sectionals. and YES. they, mean like usual, started scaring us by telling us how freaky the thingy was. like we had to play solo.. and scales we never played before. and they went 'all the best to you', 'good luck'. they had to play scales-concert A. !! five sharps! we all freaked out. but anyway.. it didnt turn out as bad as we thought it would be. but that's because we didnt have sectionals. haha. we started with the second part of the course.

was led to the auditorium.. set out instruments, stands, got ready and we had to sit with our various sections. people we didnt know, people we had never seen before, current, potential or new sectional leaders from schools all around Singapore! a band that had 300+ players. WOW. how cool! there were like 92 clarinettists.. and 66 flute players.. and so on.. they were a bunch of professionals. to think i can e counted as one of the better players in our band, and one of the worst there. gasps!

speaker/conductor for the day was MR LEE TIAN TEE, President of WASBE( Singapore). the main thing we did was on sectional practises.
-> problems we face when having sectionals
01 rhythms
02 articulation
03 warm ups
04 dynamics
05 Intonation...

the list goes on and on...
so we learnt how to go about conducting sectionals.
Firstly, we as SLs have to be prepared, to be able to lead, and to be able to teach when members are in doubt.
Secondly, we as SLs have to set a good example. the way we behave, our conduct. and stuff.
Thirdly, we as SLs have to and should do things step by step.
Lastly, we as SLs, have to know our stuff well.

then.. we learnt about the basic articulations- the difference between notes marked with a marcato, an accent, tenuto and Forzando.

tounging-Da/Duh tounging, ta tounging. blah blah. this is chimology.
seven basic rhythms we SHOULD know. 1234.2234.3234.4234 stuff. lol!

played two songs- GelatoConCaffe and First Suit in E-flat. the running notes are scary! and cause everyone there were pros, we didnt even have time to look through our scores. and in five minutes, we just played through the whole song. and they aint easy pieces. and... it actually sounded like a song, not noise. haha! amazing. was really fun((:

i've got lots to work on!
we have the power. used to punish others?
'To lead, is to serve, give and achieve TOGETHER'

seocond session of the course on friday!
i better start working on my scales :/
it aint an easy task as an SL. but its a challenge! (:
